Matthew Joseph "Matt" Hargreaves (born August 15, 1989) is the voice actor for Matt, the showrunner for Eddsworld Beyond and the illustrator and writer for its accompanying comics. He was close friends with Edd Gould since primary school and has been involved with Edd's various creations since his playground comics. Matt is currently married.[1]

History with Eddsworld

Matt Hargreaves and Edd Gould first met at a sports day event at school. According to Edd, Matt suddenly started talking to him and his friend David[2] while they watched the sporting events. Edd initially kept his distance from Matt, thinking he was "a bit of a prick", but Matt soon engaged the two in tic-tac-toe games on paper (mostly with David). A few days later, Edd was told that someone was moving to their class (with the implication it was a familiar face). Edd hoped it wasn't who he thought it would be- and in Matt walked. Despite this, Matt started to grow on Edd[3] and Matt would eventually have an animated counterpart.

Matt initially didn't want any drawn counterparts of himself to be in Edd's earlier stick animations because according to Matt, Edd kept killing him off.[3] Matt would go on to provide voices, with the earliest-known animation being Punch'd. He even wrote and drew in-between frames for Edd's animations such as Zanta Claws III.

Tom gave control over Eddsworld to Matt and Edd's family after part two of The End was finished.[4] Matt stated he would be up for voice acting [5] and said he was not done with Eddsworld, "not by a long shot".[6] Matt tweeted "Today a chapter of @Eddsworld will end and new one will begin, we're not sure where the future will take us but I hope you'll join us".[7]

Trivia

  • His YouTube channel's name was originally "wallycube", but he changed it to "MattLobster" in order to make a series with that name.
  • There is footage of Matt doing "AGH! Not the face!" in real life.
  • Matt came up with the idea for 25ft Under the Seat[8], but when he told Edd, Edd told him an Atlantis episode would be stupid. Edd started working on 25ft Under the Seat two weeks later and claimed to have not remembered saying that.
  • On Twitter, he stated that his original green jacket did not have flaps on the shoulders. He also said he still owns it and it still fits.[9]
